Toyo Construction Co., Ltd. (President: Kyoji Takezawa) has received an order for “The Project for Construction of New Thaketa Bridge in Yangon” in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar with grant aid from the government of Japan. The order was received by a joint venture with Tokyu Construction Co., Ltd. and IHI Construction Service Co., Ltd.
In Yangon, which is the former capital of Myanmar, the road network is divided by many rivers, and 15 bridges erected in the city support transportation. Among these, the existing Thaketa Bridge, which is located on a route connecting the city center and the Myanmar International Port Terminal, is an extremely convenient bridge. On the other hand, traffic volume has increased rapidly in recent years, causing chronic congestion on this bridge, which has only one lane in each direction.
Considering this situation, the New Thaketa Bridge Project, which aims to improve the congestion on the bridge and smooth the flow of logistics and passenger transportation on the road network linking the east/southeast parts of Yangon, will make a particularly important social contribution, even among infrastructure improvement works. High expectations are also placed on its contribution to the economic development of the Yangon Metropolitan area and the country of Myanmar as a whole.
This project will be the first for Toyo Construction in Myanmar. Toyo aims to take this opportunity to participate in other projects that are scheduled for the future and contribute to the development of Myanmar through infrastructure improvement.
