Joint demonstration experiment for immobilization technology of CO2 emitted from work vessels, using small CO2 recovery equipment

Toyo Construction Co., Ltd. (President and Representative Director: Haruhisa Obayashi, hereinafter “Toyo Construction”)
and AIR WATER INC. (Chairman, Chief Executive Officer: Kikuo Toyoda, hereinafter “AIR WATER”) are delighted to announce
that the two companies have conducted a demonstration experiment assuming the recovery and utilization of CO2 emitted from
construction sites or work vessels, by using the “ReCO2 STATION”, a small CO2 recovery equipment developed by AIR WATER.

1. Overview

Toyo Construction is developing the technologies of recovery & immobilization of CO2 emitted from work vessels used
at marine works as well as land construction sites, and is considering mounting container-size CO2 recovery equipment on
work vessels for earlier implementation.

The small-size CO2 recovery equipment “ReCO2 STATION” is able not only to efficiently recover low concentration of
CO2 in the gas emitted from general factories, but also to produce liquefied carbon dioxide or dry ice from a viewpoint of
carbon recycling.

At this demonstration experiment conducted at land by Toyo Construction and AIR WATER, CO2 was successfully
immobilized by producing highly-pure liquefied carbon dioxide and dry ice through the recovery of CO2 emitted from the
diesel generator (mounted on work vessels as power supply) and then mixing the dry ice into cement slurry.

Toyo Construction is considering mounting the recovery equipment on work vessels in FY 2024, and is planning to
develop the technologies to maximize the amount of CO2 immobilized into cement or ground on a work vessel through
the recovery of CO2 emitted from work vessels owned by the Company. Recovery and immobilization of CO2 emitted
from work vessels will be an important effort to realize more sustainable marine works as well as one of the global warming
countermeasures. The Company will continue to focus on developing technologies that contribute to reducing CO2 and
contribute to realization of carbon-neutral society.

2. Contents of the demonstration experiment

  Term: July, 2023

Place: Factory facility of AIR WATER’s group company located in Hokkaido

Contents: ① Recovery of low concentration of CO2 emitted from the diesel generator
(verification of the CO2 amount recovered and the electricity consumption amount under the continuous running
conditions assuming operation at marine works)

② Quality confirmation of liquefied carbon dioxide and dry ice produced from recovered CO2
(Measurement of the immobilized amount into cement slurry)

       ③ Other verification for implementation
