Suction Bucket Foundation (Multi-type)

Suction bucket foundations are classified into “mono-bucket” type and “multi-bucket” type based on the number of buckets. Both use water pressure inside the bucket for penetration, so their construction methods are the same. However, they behave differently with respect to the horizontal load after the wind turbine is mounted, similar to the relationship between monopiles and jackets in the driven pile method.

Suction Bucket Foundation (Multi-type)

Lab experiment to verify workability

Multi-buckets have the advantage of controlling the verticality of the entire foundation by controlling the amount of penetration of each bucket using multiple pumps simultaneously. We conducted laboratory tests to verify the workability of the multi-bucket installation method.

Features

  • The "Multi-type" increases stability by widening the space between the legs, thereby reducing the size of the bucket
  • More flexible design for large loads makes it suitable as a foundation for larger wind turbines
  • The amount of penetration can be controlled by adjusting the pump drainage volume of each bucket, enabling even more precise verticality
  • The bucket and foundation structure are integrated, significantly shortening the installation process compared to a jacket-type
